Reseña: HOLDING COURT de K.C. Held #1stRoundBBooks


Pensé que no lo publicaría hoy, pero ¡ya es el cuarto día de maratón!

Holding Court (o mi título personal, Llevando a cabo la corte) es un libro juvenil de misterio. Personalmente, me encantó.

Jules Verity de dieciséis años sabe exactamente lo que le espera en su nuevo trabajo en el castillo convertido en un café teatro de la época de los Tudor. Algo de dinero extra, el vestir un sofisticado vestido con pantalones y bastante tiempo para secretamente babear sobre el siempre tan atractivo y completamente no disponible Grayson Chandler. Excepto que no es como se lo imaginó.

En primer lugar, el disfraz que Jules tiene que vestir es horrible. Entonces ahí está el cuerpo muerto que encuentra que simplemente como que… bueno, desaparece. Ah, y ahí está el pequeño problema de Jules y los episodios de lo que su mejor amiga llama “Síndrome psíquico de Tourette”, espontáneos e incontrolables arrebatos de supuestamente absurdas profecías.

¿El único lado bueno? Toda esta situación del cuerpo muerto parece haber atraído la atención de Grayson. Excepto que cuanto más Jules investiga, más descubre que los intereses de Grayson pueden no ser tan elegantes como pensó. De hecho, comienza a parecer sospechoso…

Otra primera vez para mi lista, Holding Court (Llevando a cabo la corte) es un libro juvenil de misterio escrito por K.C. Held, es el primer libro de misterio que he leído en el año, creo; y es un libro ¡completamente genial! Hablando de cosas geniales, me gusta la portada, es simplemente perfecta para esta historia. Otra cosa que también me hizo querer leerlo fue la sinopsis, me atrapó por completo.

Esta vez con Holding Court nos sumergimos en la vida de una chica de dieciséis años, quien tiene un “regalo” o don un tanto especial y bastante gracioso; pero no es solo ella, ¿a qué me refiero? Por ejemplo, su madre puede saber mucho acerca de algo con solo tocar el objeto. La mejor amiga de Jules, Cami es otro personaje que me gustó bastante y junto con la abuela de Jules, ambas tienen sus momentos a lo largo de la historia y hacen que el regalo de Jules sea mucho más entretenido y entendible. A pesar de que al comienzo esos arrebatos al azar, sin sentido, espontáneos e incontrolables fueran… raros, pero mientras más avanzaba la historia me encontraba entendiéndolos, ya que de alguna manera eran profecías.

—¿Jules? Jules, ¿estás bien? Por favor, di algo.
—Te ves realmente bien en mallas —digo.
Grayson, el chico por el cual Jules ha tenido un enamoramiento de años, es atractivo, tiene buenos abdominales y luce bien en mallas. Pero lamentablemente, también es el novio de la única chica que nunca la ha tratado como una tonta; así que entiendo porqué hubo momentos cuando se sentía un poco mal por tener un enamoramiento por su novio.

Grayson se ríe, y no quiero que este momento termine. Se ve tan feliz y estar con él se siente tan… inimaginable.
Es un libro de misterio, así que por supuesto que hay misterios y secretos, pero ¡rayos! Uno de estos es un secreto gigante el cual fue más increíble y sorprendente de conocer que el principal, de todos modos, no lo contaré. Un secreto que me sorprendió más que saber quién era el asesino, y hablando de eso, fue un poco decepcionante, porque creo que mi cerebro no procesó ninguna emoción más allá de: así que ese es el asesino ¿eh? No tenía idea.
Una entrada aparece en el muro detrás de mí y doy un grito de sorpresa y pánico cuando me doy cuenta que activé algún tipo de entrada secreta.
La cosa con el cuerpo muerto fue lo que comenzó todo, y también es la trama principal, por lo que en general, puedo decir que la trama de este libro fue de verdad buena y estaba bien organizada, con esto me refiero a que puede atraerte y no sabrás la verdad hasta el final, llegarás a sospechar, pero la verdad verdad está bien escondida.

Como conclusión, me leí este libro de pe’ a pa’, uno que me hizo reír, sonreír y por supuesto tener un buen rato mientras lo leía, así que lo recomiendo mucho, no solo para esos que les gusta el género Juvenil, lamentablemente, por el momento solo se encuentra en inglés.

Pdta. ¡Quiero una segunda parte! Pero no sé de qué podría ser, por lo que mi imaginación es todo lo que tengo ahora.

Sixteen-year-old Jules Verity knows exactly what's in store at her new job at castle-turned-dinner-theater Tudor Times. Some extra cash, wearing a fancy-pants dress, and plenty of time to secretly drool over the ever-so-tasty--and completely unavailable--Grayson Chandler. Except that it's not quite what she imagined.

For one, the costume Jules has to wear is awful. Then there's the dead body she finds that just kind of...well, disappears. Oh, and there's the small issue of Jules and her episodes of what her best friend calls "Psychic Tourette's Syndrome"--spontaneous and uncontrollable outbursts of seemingly absurd prophecies.

The only bright side? This whole dead body thing seems to have gotten Grayson's attention. Except that the more Jules investigates, the more she discovers that Grayson's interest might not be as courtly as she thought. In fact, it's starting to look suspicious...

REVIEW
** I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review **

Another first to my list, Holding Court is a Young Adult Mystery book written by K.C. Held, it’s been my first of this kind in this year —I think; and OMG let me tell you —it’s such a good book! By the way, I like the cover, it’s just perfect for this story. Also, other thing that made me wanted to read it was the synopsis, it completely drew me.

 Anyway, this time we plunge into a sixteen years old girl’s life, who has a hilarious-funny special “gift”; but it’s not just her —for example, her mother can know a lot of about something just by touching it. Jules’ best friend —Cami, is another great character—along with her grandmother; both of them had their moments, and made of Jules’ gift's more enjoyable and understandable. Even when at first, those random, nonsense, spontaneous and uncontrollable outbursts were —odds, to say the least— I found myself getting along them, because somehow they did are prophecies.

"Jules? Jules, are you okay? Please say something."
"You look really good in tights, "I say.

Grayson —the boy for whom Jules has had a crush on for years— he’s sexy, good abs, and look good in tights. Also, he’s the boyfriend of the only other girl who’s never treated her like a dumb, so yeah, I understand why there were moments where she felt a little bad due to had a crush on her boyfriend.

“Grayson laughs, and I don't want this moment to end. He looks so happy and being with him feels so... inconceivable.”

Okay, it’s a mystery book, so of course, there are mysteries and secrets —but, OMG! There’s this one big secret that was most incredible and surprising to know than the main one —however, I’m not telling it. That secret amazed me most than know who was the killer —and it was kind of disappointed, because I was like so that's the killer, eh? I didn't have idea. 

"An opening appears in the wall behind me and I give a yelp of surprise and panic when I realize I've triggered some sort of secret entranceway"

The dead body thing was what started all —and also it was the main plot—, the plot in this book was really good and was well organized —I mean, it can attract you and you won’t know the true until the end, you can suspect about, but the true true is well hidden from us.

In conclusion, this was a book I read de pe’ a pa’, one that made me laugh, smile, and of course I had a good moment reading, so I highly recommended it, not just if you like the Young Adult. Also. I want a second part, but I don't see where it can come from, so my imagination is all what I have now.
