Como siempre ocurre cuando lees algo en una lengua extranjera, al principio tuve un poco de dificultad siguiéndole el hilo a esta historia, y el hecho de que me pareció un poco larga y que el comienzo no es muy atractivo, al parecer no ayudó mucho, pero luego no pude parar de leer, por lo cual valió completamente la pena el no dormir bien.

Decidí querer leerlo porque me gustó tanto la portada como la sinopsis, pero confieso que ni idea de la autora, y aún sigo un poco perdida con respecto a ella, y es más que nada por el hecho de que Altered es la novela debut de Kelly Cain, una historia interracial/multicultural, que nos sumerge en la vida de Olivia, una estudiante de leyes de primer año quien a sus veintitrés, se encuentra con un corazón roto luego de que las cosas con su prometido terminaran de manera abrupta, es aquí cuando Liv debe decidir si su vida debe tomar un nuevo rumbo, y es cuando en esta entra el misterioso chico de su clase, Nicholas.

Ambos personajes son completamente diferentes, mientras que Nicholas es bastante tímido, Olivia tiene una personalidad muy extrovertida; a su vez ambos tienen historias y vivencias muy diferentes, y esto hace que el seguir la historia sea emocionante.

Nicholas es un chico muy inteligente y llega a la vida de Olivia como un “héroe”, es quien se encuentra allí mientras Liv atraviesa el post rompimiento de compromiso y todo lo que esto conlleva, es quien la escucha, abraza, hace reír, y confunde por completo. Aquí, uno de los temas con los que se desarrolla la historia es el de la edad, más especifico, la diferencia que existe entre los veintitrés de Olivia y los dieciocho de Nicholas; esto es algo que podemos ver que para Olivia tiene relevancia, ya que nos damos cuenta que es por ello que muchas veces los sentimientos de Liv se ven retraídos, pero por mi parte, me ocurrió que muchas veces se me olvidaba ya que parecía que las edades hubiesen sido cambiadas, y Nicholas fuera el mayor.

Si bien no es hasta casi el final del libro donde los verdaderos sentimientos por parte de ambos personajes son mostrados abiertamente; y cuatro o cinco años no son mucho, siempre vi un casi, cuando creí que por fin lo admitiría, al final no lo hace, no es algo que haga la historia aburrida ni menos interesante, simplemente te dan ganas de querer golpear a alguien.

En general, de verdad disfruté este libro, el personaje de Nicholas es uno que me encantó completamente, además, la química natural y el romance que se ve que ocurre y hay entre ambos fue algo muy atractivo, y aunque hubo un par de momentos donde pareció bastante aburrido, y una que otra escena donde más de una vez quise golpear algo; la historia de estos dos es una que definitivamente debe ser leída si te gusta el New-Adult.

**I received a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

As always happens when you read something in a foreign language, at first I had a bit of trouble following the track of this story, and the fact that it seemed a little long and the beginning wasn’t very attractive, apparently didn’t help it, but then I couldn’t stop to read, so it completely worth don’t sleep.

I'd decided to read it because I liked both the cover and the synopsis, but I must confess I didn’t know the author, and I’m still a little loss about her, and it’s mostly because of the fact that Altered is Kelly Cain’s debut novel, a multicultural/interracial story, which plunges us into Olivia’s life, a first-year law student who at her twenty-three years old, finds herself with a broken heart after all things with her fiancé end abruptly, and here Liv has to decide if her life needs to take a new approach, and is when the mysterious guy from her class, Nicholas, comes into.

Both characters are totally different, where Nicholas is pretty shy, Olivia has a very outgoing personality; at the same time both have stories and experiences quite different, and this makes going along the story to be exciting.

Nicholas is a very intelligent guy, and comes to Olivia’s life as a “hero”, he's who's there while Liv go through the post-engagement-breakup, and everything that this entails, he’s who listens, hugs, makes her laugh, and confuses completely. Here, one of the main topics of the story is the age, for be exactly, the difference between Olivia's twenty-three and Nicholas' eighteen; this is something we can see that for Olivia has relevance, because we note that most of the time Liv's feelings are withdrawn, but for me, it happened many times I forgot it, because it seemed that the ages had been changed, and Nicholas was older.

Even though isn’t until almost the end of the book where the real feelings by both characters are showed openly; and four or five years aren’t a lot, I always saw an almost, when I thought that finally she would admitted it, at the end she didn't; isn't something that makes the story boring or less interesting, it just makes you want to punch someone.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book, Nicholas’ character is one that thoroughly delighted me, plus, the natural chemistry and the romance we can see that happens and is between they both, was something very attractive, and even when there was a few moments where it seemed pretty boring, and one or other scene where more than once I wanted to hit something; the story of these two is one that definitely must be read if you like the New Adult.
