Lily se aclara la garganta de nuevo.
—Entonces, ¿quieres decirme qué es lo que sucede con tu nuevo cocinero?
Rosa apenas puede ocultar su sorpresa.
—¿Quién te dijo?
—Tu rostro —Lily se ríe detrás de su vaso—. Te ves como una colegiala enamorada cuando miras en esa dirección.
Rosa niega con la cabeza y en voz baja dice—: Tienes que jurar discreción.
Lily hace una cruz sobre su corazón.
—Por supuesto.
—Estoy enamorada. —Rosa de inmediato cierra los labios, con la esperanza de poder tragarse las palabras que acaban de salir de su boca.
Su cuñada la abraza.
—Estoy tan feliz por ti. Te mereces encontrar a alguien que te haga feliz.
—Sí, excepto que no funcionará.
—¿Por qué no?
—Trabaja para mí.
—¿Y? Si de verdad estás enamorada, tiene que haber otro motivo de ruptura que eso —insiste Lily.
—Es solo que… es complicado. De cualquier modo, se terminó.
Lily chasquea los dedos.
—Uno, dos, tres. ¿Así?
Rosa asiente.
—No te creo. Si de verdad lo amas, entonces tienes que encontrar una forma de hacer que funcione. Al igual que lo hice con tu hermano.

Luego de estar leyendo tantos libros juveniles y New Adult, en realidad es bueno tener la oportunidad de leer otra cosa, como por ejemplo una historia más adulta.

Forbidden Rose (La rosa prohibida) es un romance contemporáneo adulto escrito por Vivian Winslow, a su vez, es el segundo libro en la serie Wildflowers, pero puede ser leído como una novela independiente, adivinen, ¡eso hice! Puede que te auto espoilees con algunos hechos del primero, no estoy segura de cuánto ya que no he leído el primero; pero por supuesto que eso no importa, y ya tengo Blossoming Flower gracias a la autora, ¡así que muy pronto habrá una reseña de ese!

Un libro que nos sumerge en una increíble historia entre una chica de veinticinco años, Rosa, y el hombre de treinta, Eliseo. Tengo que confesarlo, la química entre ambos es tan tangible, sin bromear, y es bastante genial el cómo la autora puede hacerte sentir todo eso, lo que están sintiendo. Además, la tensión sexual que existe, guau, que buenos momentos. Por cierto, tiene escenas explícitas, así que si no te gusta, no puedo opinar mucho al respecto.

Rosa es una mujer poderosa, completamente independiente, de verdad le gusta divertirse, y la relación con su familia es una sólida, por supuesto que hay momentos de desacuerdo entre ellos, pero las cosas normales. En este libro podemos ver cómo hace sus sueños realidad, cómo logra lo que se propone, construyendo su propio restaurante. Aquí es cuando un chico de su pasado aparece, Eliseo. ¿Qué puedo decir de él? Me gustó, no encantó, pero de verdad gustó. Es… atractivo, caliente y ama cocinar, es un cocinero; en su pasado cometió algunos errores, pero de los errores se aprende, de todas formas, su personaje es uno de esos que cuánto más conoces, más te gusta, y entiendes el porqué de sus actos.

Como siempre digo, ¿qué es una buena historia de amor sin un poco de drama? Y este libro, ¡rayos! No tienen mucho, pero tiene. Esta vez relacionado con el pasado de Eliseo. Pero es obvio que no estoy contándoles, porque tienen que leerlo. ¿Lo malo? Su versión en español aún no está, pero si quieren practicar inglés, pueden intentarlo.

Como conclusión, puedo decir que en serio lo disfruté, y en su mayoría mi lectura fue muy amena. Lo que más me encantó fue las partes en español, ya que el libro está en inglés, y como estudiante de traducción sé que tienes que cambiar eso cuando lo traduces, entonces el leerlo entre tanto inglés, fue genial, aunque a mi parecer muy poco. La diversidad cultural que el libro presenta también es algo interesante. Recomiendo este libro para los que les gusta una buena historia de amor, está escrito en tercera persona, así que, se tiene la posibilidad de conocer más a ambos personajes, aunque igual hubo otras narraciones, pero en general, fueron solo ellos dos. Quiero leer la otra serie, pero creo que sería mejor si leo el primero de esta, y quizás luego la otra, por lo que muy pronto volverá, al menos, Rosa, al blog.

Vivian Winslow nació y se crió en el sur de California. Antes de convertirse en escritora, hizo una carrera el mudarse alrededor del mundo cada cierto par de años debido al trabajo de su esposo y su incorregible espíritu viajero. En la actualidad vive en la ciudad de Nueva York con su esposo y sus dos niños, y está agradecida de por fin tener un lugar al cual llamar hogar por más de dos años.
Nueva York es la ciudad perfecta para consentir su amor por la moda, las artes y especialmente la comida. Lily clears her throat again. “So, you want to tell me what you have going on with your new chef?”

Rosa can hardly mask her surprise. “Who told you?”

“Your face,” Lily chuckles into her glass. “You look like some lovesick schoolgirl when you look in that direction.”

Rosa shakes her head and in a low voice says, “You are sworn to secrecy.”

Lily makes an X over her heart. “Absolutely.”

“I’m in love.” Rosa immediately purses her lips, hoping to swallow up the words that just fell out of her mouth.

Her sister-in-law hugs her. “I’m so thrilled for you. You deserve to find someone who makes you happy.”

“Yeah, except it won’t work.”

“Why not?”

“He works for me.”

“And? If you’re really in love, there has to be more a deal breaker than that,” Lily insists.

“It’s just . . . it’s complicated. In any case, it’s over.”

Lily snaps her fingers. “1, 2, 3. Like that?”

Rosa nods.

“I don’t believe you. If you really love him, then you have to find a way to make it work. Like I did with your brother.”

“But you two didn’t have so much baggage or family drama.”

Lily tilts her head at Rosa, as if to say, “Look at who you’re talking to.” Between a double-crossing Brazilian ex-lover who nearly ruined their wedding, and an interfering mother, she’d brought plenty of baggage to the relationship.

“But you made it work.”

“Real relationships based on real love always require work. There’s no getting around it.”

“Yeah, but . . . .”

“You’re finding excuses, Rosa, because you’re scared. I turned down your brother at first because I was scared. Consider your life, not as a series of moments, but in a larger context. If you can see yourself with him, experiencing something profoundly satisfying in the long term, I’d say it’s worth the risk. Whatever problems you have in the moment will always resolve themselves in time.”

Rosa leans against the stone pillar, taking a real cocktail off the tray of a passing waiter. She knows Lily’s right. But how to make it work without compromising the restaurant? That’s the question she can’t answer.

Lily kisses her sister-in-law’s cheek. “Unfortunately, I have to go talk to that couple over there.” She nods in the direction of an older gentleman and woman looking admiringly at the sculpture. “Just remember what I said. And keep in mind, a man who could do what he did to your neck may be worth keeping in your life.”

She winks as she walks away. Alejandro separates himself from a conversation as soon as he notices his wife heading toward him. Rosa can’t help but smile at the gesture. That’s commitment. 

“If I remember correctly we met somewhere around here,” Juan says approaching Rosa. In his hands are two freshly made doughnuts. The idea that he may break his daily calorie intake by eating one of them makes her grin.

Rosa looks out toward the water and nods. “I think you’re right.” She takes one of the doughnuts out of his hands and takes a bite. The scent and taste of the pastry reminds her of the morning she spent with Eliseo. What she wouldn’t give to relive that time. Maybe when he asks, “Are we?” She’d respond with, “No, we’re not finished.”

“You have a bit of . . . ,” Juan runs a finger over her lip to gather a bit of the guava jelly. He licks his finger.

It’s like a scene from a predictable romantic comedy. The hot leading man standing with a gorgeous woman, who doesn’t realize just how beautiful she is to him, reminiscing over their first flirtation over a warm doughnut. Of course a kiss is expected to follow, maybe a laugh at the memory of how that night was the first of many nights together that led to them falling in love without realizing it—your typical romance trope. It’s all fantasy, Rosa realizes. A very beautiful one, but a fantasy nevertheless.

REVIEW
** I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review **

After being reading NA/NA is really good to have the chance to read an Adult story, so, Forbidden Rose is an Adult Contemporary Romance book written by Vivian Winslow, also, it's the second book in the Wildflowers Series BUT it can be read as a STANDALONE —guess what, I did that. You can be spoiled by a few things —I don't know how much because I haven't read the first; it doesn't matter of course, and I already put the first one in my list.

A book that plunges us into an amazing love story between a twenty-five-years-old girl, Rosa, and a thirty-years man, Eliseo. I have to tell you —the chemistry between them is so tangible, not kidding, and it’s pretty awesome how the author can make you feel it —what they’re feeling. Also, the sexual tension that exists, wow, such some good moments. BY THE WAY, it has explicit scenes, so if you don’t like that, I can’t say much.

About the mains character—because there are more—,Rosa is a powerful woman, completely independent, she really likes to have fun, and her relation with her family is a stronger one, of course there are moments of disagreement between them, but normal things, you know. In this book we can see how she makes her dreams come true—creating her own restaurant. Here’s when a guy from her past comes into, Eliseo. What can I say? I liked him —not loved but really liked him. He’s… sexy, and loves to cook —he’s a chef—, in his past he’d made some mistakes but from them you learn, anyway, his character is also one of those that while more you know, more you like, and understand.

As I usually say, what is a good love story without drama? And this one, omg! Not a lot —but it has. This time related with Eliseo’s past. Pff, of course I'm not telling anything about, because YOU have to read it.

Overall, as always, I enjoyed, and mostly had good time reading it. What I loved the most was the Spanish parts —when they speak in Spanish, why? I speak Spanish and for some reason I still don’t understand why I was fascinating by reading some of it between all that English, however it was just a little. Anyways, I highly recommend this book, it’s writing in third person, so, had the opportunity to know both POV was good —there were others “POVs” but in general it was just both of them. Also, I want to read the other series, but I think I'd be better if I read the first book in this.

Vivian Winslow was born and raised in Southern California. Before becoming a writer, she made a career out of moving around the world every couple of years thanks to her husband’s job and her incurable wanderlust. She currently lives in New York City with her husband and two elementary school age children, and is grateful to finally have a place to call home for more than two years. 

New York is the perfect city to indulge her love of fashion, the arts and especially food. If she’s not at home writing or running around the city with her kids, you’ll most likely find her eating at the newest restaurant in her beloved Lower East Side or having a cocktail at her favorite bar in Alphabet City.
