This cop might be too hot to handle…
He’s been a cop too long not to recognize the signs of a woman running from her past.
She’s not who she says she is—and isn’t about to share her secrets.
Sexy-as-sin Police Chief Mike Flannery knows the new arrival to Hopewell Springs is trouble. She has a smoking-hot body and a quick wit…and he’ll be damned if that’s not a turn-on. But this former NYPD cop and small-town heartthrob has been burned before, and there’s no way he’ll let that happen again.
New York City Detective Cassie Yates is on the run. A six-month undercover sting in a sleazy bar seemed like a textbook arrest—but now there’s a hit out on her. Armed with fake ID, her K-9 companion, and a police-issued SUV, she flees to a quiet upstate town where she trades her badge and gun for a spatula, finally finding peace in the dream she tossed aside to follow her family into law enforcement.
There’s no denying the fire and ice between them. But as the hired assassin closes in, Mike’s past comes roaring back and secrets are revealed in an explosion destined to tear them apart—if not destroy them.

** I RECEIVED AN ARC IN EXCHANGE OF AN HONEST REVIEW **
BURNOUT is the first book by Tee O'Fallon, plus it is the book number one in the NYPD Blue & Gold series. Something I liked about the idea of reading it was that she, Tee, knows what she is talking about when it comes to this whole world of detectives, police and everything, I thought it gave the series a complete new reality. And the cover added another sexy bonus.

When it is about dating, Mike and Cassie have their own version/perception of relationships; Mike has not had good luck with women, not for lack of trying but because of he trusting and ending with a broken heart and alone. In the other hand, Cassie has tried to date (for more than ten minutes) but it seemed that her ability to find someone "correct" or at least somebody that gave her more emotion in the dating thing, was not so good. Yet, when they met, OMG! There is instant-chemistry everywhere, it was not one of those stories where they meet and then they immediately start a relationship, it was slow but great.

This is about Cassie and Mike finding something they were not even looking for, and also about encouraging themselves to trust other people in a new level; their story together started like any other, however, Cassie already had a big secret, which is not good if you want to start dating someone. At first, I was really caught by their chemistry and the sparks that came with it. But then it suddenly took a different path -one that I saw coming due to all the events that were happening- and it somehow added the plot a little more of excitement.

BURNOUT is classified as Romantic Suspense, so there was love/romance with a touch of suspense. This kind of books are very appealing for the diversity they represent. Tee is a new author plus I think she did a really good job with this book, very recommend it if you like this kind of story, plot and characters.

CHAPTER ONE
Ten more minutes and all freaking hell would break loose.
Cassie wanted to growl as she braced her palms on the bar where she served as bartender in this crap-hole—the worst undercover assignment she’d ever had.
She scanned the twenty rickety wooden tables surrounding the raised stage in La Femme. Every walk of life in Manhattan was accounted for, from blue-collar workers in jeans and T-shirts to businessmen sporting thousand-dollar Armani suits. Sick bastards. They were all here for the underage girls. She hoped the perverted a-holes went down in flames.
Half a dozen drugged-out teenagers gyrated their scantily clad bodies from center stage, swaying and undulating to the rhythm of music pumping from overhead speakers. The bass boomed full throttle. Glasses on the bar vibrated. Bottles of cheap booze crammed onto rusty metal shelves hummed their own crystalline tune.
Cassie walked a few feet down the narrow aisle behind the bar, her black pumps making sucking noises on the wet, sticky tile. She wasn’t thrilled about wearing the working attire that hugged her so tightly she could hardly breathe. Her clothes barely concealed the body wire microphone nestled between her breasts and the tiny digital recorder taped to the inside of her thigh.
Another glance at her watch.
Six minutes to go.
She took a steadying breath, then grabbed a tray and went around the bar to gather empty glasses and bottles from the tables. Normally, it was the waitresses’ job to collect empties, but the less glass out there during a takedown the better.
After filling her tray, she turned and slammed headfirst into something solid. Glasses and bottles rattled on the tray, nearly sliding to the floor. The customer she’d plowed into gripped her upper arm, steadying her.
“Sorry about that.” She looked up and smiled at the face looming above her. “Thank”—her smile froze—“you.” She recognized him immediately. It was the bearded man she’d seen come in earlier, the one who’d made La Femme’s scumbag owner, Rod Manici, visibly nervous. The guy had gone directly into the back rooms—rooms reserved for private sessions. Apparently he was finished doing whatever perverted things he’d come here for. After years on the job, Cassie automatically took inventory.
Five-ten, a hundred and seventy pounds, dressed casually but neatly in black slacks and a black sweater. His beard didn’t quite match the color of his dark brown hair. She’d bet her ass it was a fake beard. No shock there, lots of men wouldn’t want to be recognized in a dump like this.
“You’re welcome,” he said, still gripping her arms. His voice was smooth, practiced, like a radio talk show host’s. The smile he gave her was pleasant enough, yet it never reached his eyes.
His eyes were an intensely bright gray, striking even, yet something about the man was definitely off. Was it that subtle air of superiority she detected? The way he carried himself, one would think he owned the place. No, that wasn’t it. That’s when Cassie saw it, a vicious, cruel light flickering in those gray depths. Just as quickly, it was gone, slick facade back in place. As if he’d suddenly realized he’d unintentionally exposed his inner demon.
He released her arms and turned, disappearing out the front door and leaving the scent of expensive cologne in his wake. Cassie watched the door slam behind him, her skin still crawling from where he’d touched her. It was more her woman’s intuition talking than cop instinct, yet she was certain of one thing—that man was pure evil. Too bad he wouldn’t be here for the takedown. She’d definitely like to see him in cuffs. That would have knocked that air of superiority straight out of him.
For the remaining few seconds of her illustrious bartending career, Cassie checked her customers’ drinks for the last time. Sweat ran from her neck into the valley between her breasts.
Any moment now, and…

First rule of stake-outs – don’t fall in love.
New neighbors are bad news in Samantha Harper’s experience. Especially ones as suspicious and brooding as the guy who just moved in next door. So when the dangerous but sexy stranger seems to be involved in something illegal—the aspiring cop in her takes action. If only she could stop thinking about how he looks naked…
All DEA agent Ash Cooper wants to do is lay low and survive this crap surveillance assignment. But after a run-in with his attractive neighbor, he realizes that’s going to be much harder than he planned. Keeping the woman out of trouble is hard enough, but keeping his hands off her is near impossible.

** I RECEIVED AN ARC IN EXCHANGE OF AN HONEST REVIEW **

ON HER SIX is the first book in the Under Covers series written by Christina Elle; It is true that the cover was a factor (maybe six) in my decision -it is undeniable, HOWEVER, have you read the synopsis yet? It is very captivating itself which in a certain way makes the book more appealing. Plus, I love reading new authors.

Samantha and Ash surely met in a peculiar way, so from the beginning this story guarantees to be unique and unforgettable. Samantha is a free-soul character, but there were moments when it put her in trouble; I liked that she was determined when she got something in her head, it made her persona more charming. And there is also her inner circle, they seemed to be what keep her grounded. Her past, more specifically, her story with the police and what happened or what people think her dad did, somehow makes her be more focused on what she wants. And then we have Ash, the sexy strange in our story. He was very similar to Samantha, which made me saw them in the same way; he knows what he has to do, yet, he seems to let himself -a little too much- to be influenced by some things that happened a long time ago. But then when you understand why he is the way he is, everything makes sense. Their relationship/friendship looks to be very influenced by both their past and decisions that were made before they even met. It is about trusting and getting to know each other, everything in order to discover and find what and who is behind what is happening with their relationship and with their lives.

Samantha plus Ash make the story very intriguing, and of course, there were also the other characters that give the essential amount of right to the whole plot. A suspense with tons of romance, in addition to a sexy-as-h*** guy with other six big-and-firm reasons to read it. Very fascinating if you ask me. Christina wrote the correct things at the right moments so the story is just amazing. I liked and highly recommend it.

CHAPTER ONE
This was so not the way Samantha Harper wanted to start her day. Running late to work again, she had just gotten her car door open when someone came up behind her.
“Gi-give me your ma-money,” a gravelly male voice stuttered. Something cold and hard dug into her lower back. “Now.”
A gun. Inhaling a long gush of hot July air, she worked to slow her racing pulse and allow her training to kick in.
Keep him talking. Distract him. Buy some time to get out of the situation.
When she didn’t move, he spoke again, “Di-did you h-hear me?”
“Yes, I heard you,” she said.
“Then hand it over.” She attempted to peer over her shoulder at the assailant, but the man pressed the gun harder into her spine, causing a slice of pain to the bone.
Wincing, she said, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Wha-what?” the man said, surprised.
“There are less criminal ways of making a living. You don’t have to do this.” She’d met plenty of people at the station who had forgone crime and now lived respectable lives. “I can help you.”
“Shut your m-mouth and gi-give me your goddamn m-money!”
Something in the way the guy spoke told her this wasn’t a regular mugging and he wasn’t a regular criminal. No, he didn’t seem like the usual drug-addicted men she’d helped book at the precinct. This one was more desperate. Frantic. Confused even.
“Are you okay?” she asked, once again trying to look over her shoulder.
There was a blip of silence where she didn’t think he was going to answer. The pressure against her back lessened, before he came to. “I…I d-don’t know what’s wrong wi-with me.” A slight tremor thrummed from where he held the gun. She caught sight of him rubbing his forehead as if suffering from a severe migraine.
She glanced up and down the vacant city street. No one outside due to the early morning hour. Only a handful of other cars parked along the curb. It was normally a quiet street. Neighbors took care of their houses, kept their hedges trimmed, and waved to one another when passing on the street. Things like muggings hardly happened in this part of the city.
The aggressive neighborhood watch group didn’t hurt either.
The sun beat down. Her skin felt clammy. Her pastel yellow blouse suctioned to her skin like plastic wrap. The stifling air mixed with the adrenalin coursing through her veins made it difficult to breathe. And to think.
