Title: FORBIDDEN VALENTINE
Author: J.C. Valentine
Series: Forbidden, #4
Genre: Adult, Contemporary Romance
Synopsis
It started with a drink.
It turned into a promise.
Ransom Scott lost his heart the day the woman he loved chose another man. Or so he thought. Estranged from his brother, distancing himself from the world, he’s been drowning his sorrows in cheap booze and women…determined to forget.
His world is falling apart, until a beautiful woman decides to take a chance on him.
Dani Deviche is as bewitching as she is innocent. Full of youth and vitality, she captivates him. Challenges him. She’s everything Ransom never thought to look for in the opposite sex, and he can’t get enough.
When a promise of friendship turns into something more, can Ransom fulfill his end of the bargain, or will a secret from Dani’s past destroy his last chance at happiness?

**Author’s Note** This book was written as a compliment to the Forbidden Trilogy. However, it can be read as a standalone.

EXCERPT

Standing in front of her full-length mirror, Dani had to work hard not to cry. As it was, she was misty-eyed. Her hair, pulled up on one side and secured by a pearled comb, hung in gentle waves down to her shoulders, framing her face, which was so flawless as to be porcelain. She’d never seen herself look that way, like a nineteen-twenties movie star. It was such a surreal moment, she wished she had a camera handy to remember the moment.

A soft tap on the door broke her from her ruminations, and Dani moved to open it. On the other side, Ransom stood looking like a wedding cake topper. Dressed in a slim-fitting black and white three-pieced suit sans tie and the first two buttons on his white collared shirt undone, he was simply mouthwatering.

Dani took a moment to just stand there and soak him in, wishing they didn’t have to leave so she could pull him inside and tear his clothes from his body and have her wicked way with him. He seemed to be thinking the same thing about her.

Licking his lips, Ransom’s eyes skated down her body, lingering on her breasts, then her waist, her legs, and back up to her breasts, then finally her face and hair. “Good God, Dani, you’re trying to give me a heart attack. You weren’t kidding about the dress. You look amazing.” His hands reached out and skimmed down her arms. When he reached her hands, he took hold of them and lifted her arm out to her sides, looking his fill. “You have no idea the things I want to do to you right now. If we didn’t have to go to this party…”

She laughed. “You must be a mind reader, because I was just thinking the same thing about you.” She made a slow perusal of him, giving him the same treatment he had her. “You look good enough to eat, Mr. Scott,” she purred, and delighted in the way his eyes flared with unbanked lust.

Gently, she extricated herself from his hold and turned to give him her back. Sweeping her hair over one shoulder, she said, “Zip me up?”

Taking a step closer, she could feel the tension that Ransom barely held checked, and it lit up her blood like nothing else. When his knuckles grazed her spine, Dani flinched with anticipation. Grasping the zipper, Ransom took his time zipping her into her dress, allowing the backs of his knuckles to ride over her sensitized skin inch by tantalizing inch.

Dani’s breathing turned labored the longer he dragged it out, teasing her into a lust-fueled haze that had her wishing that, by some stroke of luck, they’d get a reprieve from a party she no longer had any interest in attending. Staying in, wrapped in her boyfriend’s arms, their naked bodies entwined throughout the night, sounded much more enticing.

As the material pulled closed around her shoulder blades, Ransom’s lips found the back of Dani’s neck. He pressed gentle kisses along her vertebrae then across to her shoulder, the light scrape of his teeth tightening her nipples to painful points.

Dani’s core throbbed with need and her heart felt ready to burst. She closed her eyes, resting her head back on his shoulder and sinking back against his chest with a soft moan.

REVIEW
** I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review **

Forbidden Valentine is the fourth book in Forbidden Trilogy and the long-awaited conclusion of the same, but don't worry it can be read as a standalone novella —which I did, and also, this was my first book by J.C. Valentine, and for a first one, it let me wanting to read the others in this series, plus, her writing was a really great addition to my read, and she helps to understand those facts about Ransom’s past by filling out the blanks, so in a near future I’m reading more by her, because I do want to know more about Rebel as well.

If you don’t know Ransom —just like me— as a little/short introduction, now, after fell in love with the same girl just as his identical-twin brother did, he’s heartbroken; he distances from his family, friends, and of course, from his twin —what was the hardest thing to do, I think—, and goes through this situation living day by day, and getting blind drunk. In one of those days he meets a girl called Daniella, she’s really really smart, not kidding, she graduated from high school at fifteen and then two years at community and after two years more from college, and even when the making friends thing was hard for her because of the age different that always existed between she and her classmates, she may be a shy, and young girl, BUT she’s not innocent —at all.
“Are you sure? I thought you weren’t supposed to talk to strangers, let alone get into a car with one.”
“Do you have a candy?” she said with a laugh.
“I’m sure I can think of something to give you to suck on.”
After a night that doesn’t end how they both thought it would —however, not in a bad way—, Dani decides that she’s more concerned, and determined in helping him than trying to being in a real, serious relationship.

Dani and Ransom’s characters have an immediate connection and chemistry, even when at first he compares her with Josephine —the reason of his brokenheartedness, he quickly learns that she’s not just the girl who’s there to help him to forget and get over the girl he thought was the love of his life, she’s a lot more.

The happiness he didn’t know he can have, and others things he thought he was never going to have back, he finds them on Dani.

I truly, highly recommend this book, as I already said, not need to read the others, but there’s nothing bad if you do; Ransom’s character is sweet, sexy, and romantic. Their love story was a really good read and I felt absorbed by the book from the very beginning, it made me laugh, and cry, as always happens to me with a good book.

Why I don’t give it five stars? Maybe for you can be nonsense but this is because I did want to punch something, in this case, it was due to one of the character’s senseless, and I wanted to get some sense from it, well, basically it was being an idiot, and also, I felt that part a little forced, as if the author wanted to finish the book as faster as she could, maybe she just wanted to give Ransom’s happily ever after to those readers who wanted more of him, but anyway, I think the book was too short for my like.

All in all, you should read this one, do you like romance? You should read this. Like happy endings? You should read this. Like to read just for fun? You should read this one. And finally, it has explicit scenes, actually, one of my favorites was one of those, it was kind of funny!

And by the way, I love when they come in pairs!
