I'm a person who enjoys debut novels, Tobie did really good with this one. At first I wasn't too attached by it but then the story drew on and I couldn't put the book down. For what I see it's the first book in a series so I'm looking forward for them.
She plunges us into a story with a lot of fantasy -the good kind. About Lia's life, she's a Mermaid but she's never lived in the ocean; something is sad in some way, but it's better be on land that in the middle of a war. Surrounded by humans she's had to learn how look like one of them, even when the only thing she wants is be herself. All her life she's been doing and acting like her parents wants to, or teach to, but the moment she met the human boy, Clay, she knows what she starts feelings is not the good thing to do, but no-one can avoid what her/his heart wants, even if you already know it can't happen. So being friends is all what she can allow herself to do. But what happens when you're not the new girl at school anymore? When there's other person like you? One who can do more things like you? Even when you're the same? A lot of things, actually.
Overall, I liked the whole idea of this plot, the way in which Tobie took The Little Mermaid and mix the old tale with the real life. I enjoyed and liked my reading. Did you like TLM when you were a child? Then you'll love this one!
